The future of Interreg

Key highlights of the Interreg Annual Meeting (Brussels, 18-19 June 2018) from the representatives of the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia

Every year in June, the European Commission gathers representatives of the Managing Authorities and the Joint Secretariats of all the Interreg programmes at a meeting that serves as the opportunity to review programme implementation progress, as well as to discuss the most relevant issues related to programme implementation (In accordance with Article 51 of Regulation (EU) No 1303/2013).

The focus of this year’s meeting was on the European Commission’s proposal for Interreg in the period post 2020. In that light, the event gave way to numerous topics related to the future of Interreg Programmes, which are of high interest not only of the Programme Bodies, but also the end-users of the funds – the beneficiaries.

During the two-day event, the main novelties of the proposed new regulation were presented. All steps are heading in the same direction – simplification. This simplification represents one of the main priorities of the European Commission, and it refers to modern investments, as well as flexibility and administrative simplification for all regions, regardless of their level of development.
