In Europe, the year of 2018 was celebrated as the European Year of Cultural Heritage with the aim to encourage people to discover and engage with Europe's cultural heritage. Within this initiative, cultural heritage activities took place across Europe – at EU, national, regional and local level.
Preservation of the cultural heritage of the Hungary-Serbia border region is one of the priorities of the Interreg-IPA CBC Hungary-Serbia Programme, and projects being implemented under this priority took part in this initiative and got featured in EU-funded electronic publication “Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens”.
Marking the closing of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the Interact programme organized a networking event “Activating cultural heritage in Interreg” intended for Interreg programmes and projects on 5 December, 2018, in Vienna, Austria. Representatives of the Joint Secretariat of the Programme and the projects featured in the publication “Connecting Cultures, Connected Citizens” took part in this event – joining the panel discussion about using cultural heritage to facilitate additional improvements in other sectors, and showcasing how cultural heritage is activated and explored in Interreg via exhibition at the conference.
